Welcome to NurseUnions.org.
This research project is to collect information on the number of unionized nurses in North America, and to disseminate that information to promote research and knowledge. Unions are being asked to submit the number of members by state, so we can see how many nurses are unionized both state-wide and nation-wide. Remarkably, this valuable data has not been collected before, to the best of my knowledge.
Specifically, we include registered nurses (RN), which would also include nurse practitioners (NP) and other RN specialties. Licenses Practical Nurses (LPN, aka licensed vocational nurses, LVN) are not included at this time, but there is the potential to expand the project in the future.
This website is an independent research project of mine. There is no affiliation between this website and the unions. There is no connection between this project and any educational institution. Any data received from anyone, such as the number of nurse members in unions, is treated as public knowledge, and not subject to privacy laws or patient privacy. Data is only accepted if it is at the aggregate level, with no individual-level information. In other words, there is no way to identify who is or is not a union member, for the protection of all involved. This project is self-funded, with no monies coming from any other source. This helps ensure the integrity and accuracy of the project.
